Relacionando empowerment e orientação empreendedora: Análise dos estabelecimentos hoteleiros do Norte de Portugal

Abstract


Propósito: O objetivo fundamental deste estudo é analisar a relação entre empowerment e orientação empreendedora dos estabelecimentos hoteleiros da Região do Norte de Portugal.

Metodologia/abordagem: Para tal, utilizamos uma abordagem quantitativa recorrendo à aplicação de um inquérito por questionário ao qual responderam 44 gestores de topo dos estabelecimentos hoteleiros da Região do Norte de Portugal, tendo-se aplicado como técnica estatística o modelo de equações estruturais (MEE) com recurso ao Partial Least Squares.

Resultados: O estudo empírico mostrou existir uma relação positiva e significativa entre empowerment e orientação empreendedora, no âmbito da análise dos referidos estabelecimentos.

Limitações da investigação: Amostra por conveniência respeitante exclusivamente a base de dados da AHRESP.

Implicações práticas: Este estudo permitirá, por um lado, a capacitação dos colaboradores como intra-empreendedores, e, por outro, na adoção de novos estilos de liderança pela gestão de topo das organizações estudadas, com enfâse no empowerment para a potenciar a orientação empreendedora.

Originalidade/valor: Destaca-se ainda o caráter pioneiro na análise dos impactos do empowerment na orientação empreendedora nos estabelecimentos hoteleiros do Norte de Portugal.

Title: "Relating empowerment and entrepreneurial orientation: Analysis of hotel establishments in Northern Portugal"

Abstract

Purpose: The main objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between empowerment and entrepreneurial orientation of hotel establishments in the North of Portugal.

Methodology/approach: To this end, we used a quantitative approach using a questionnaire survey answered by 44 top managers of hotels in the North of Portugal, using the structural equation model (ESM) as a statistical technique using Partial Least Squares.

Results: The empirical study showed a positive and significant relationship between empowerment and entrepreneurial orientation, within the analysis of these establishments.

Limitations: Sample for convenience concerning AHRESP database only.

Implications: This study will enable, on the one hand, the empowerment of employees as intrapreneurs, and, on the other, the adoption of new leadership styles by the top management of the studied organizations, with emphasis on empowerment to enhance entrepreneurial orientation..

Originality/value: We also highlight the pioneering character in the analysis of the impacts of empowerment on entrepreneurial orientation in hotel establishments in northern Portugal.
