Precursores da iniciativa social em Portugal: o papel da formação, experiência profissional e perceção de viabilidade da iniciativa

Abstract


Propósito: É objetivo deste artigo compreender em que medida a formação, as experiências profissionais anteriores e a perceção da viabilidade da iniciativa social condicionam o lançamento de um projeto de empreendedorismo social em Portugal.

Desenho/metodologia/abordagem: O artigo parte de uma revisão de literatura, seguindo-se a realização de uma investigação quantitativa, através de um inquérito por questionário enviado aos responsáveis de ONGD existentes em Portugal e de projetos cotados na Bolsa de Valores Sociais.

Resultados: A investigação revela que a formação exerce uma influência positiva, direta, sobre o lançamento de iniciativas sociais, verificando-se o mesmo em relação à situação ocupacional do indivíduo e à perceção da viabilidade da iniciativa. O contexto empreendedor não é apontado como um preditor direto da criação de iniciativas sociais. Para a formação da perceção de viabilidade da iniciativa contribui essencialmente a interpretação pessoal das competências necessárias ao lançamento e acompanhamento do projeto e o entendimento de que a iniciativa é desejável. A perceção de um ambiente externo favorável tem uma influência baixa sobre a decisão.

Limitações: A investigação apresenta uma natureza exploratória em virtude do caráter não aleatório da amostra e da sua dimensão.

Implicações: O conhecimento dos fatores que exercem maior influência na criação de organizações permite estimular o surgimento de novas iniciativas sociais.

Originalidade/valor: O empreendedorismo social é um campo ainda emergente, que carece da produção de mais investigação, em particular de natureza quantitativa. Em Portugal é uma realidade pouco conhecida, onde são necessários novos contributos empíricos.

Title: "Precursors of social initiative in Portugal: the role of training, professional experience and perception of viability of the initiative"

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this article is to understand the extent to which training, previous professional experiences and the perception of the viability of social initiative condition the launch of a social entrepreneurship project in Portugal.

Design/methodology/approach: The article starts from a literature review, followed by a quantitative research, through a questionnaire survey sent to those responsible for NGOs in Portugal and projects listed on the Social Stock Exchange.

Results: Research reveals that training has a positive, direct influence on the launching of social initiatives, as well as on the occupational situation of the individual and the perception of the viability of the initiative. The entrepreneurial context is not pointed as a direct predictor of the creation of social initiatives. For the formation of the perception of viability of the initiative contributes essentially the personal interpretation of the necessary competences for the launching and monitoring of the project and the understanding that the initiative is desirable. The perception of a favorable external environment has a low influence on the decision.

Limitations: Research is exploratory in nature because of the non-random nature of the sample and its size.

Implications: Knowledge of the factors that have the greatest influence on the creation of organizations enables the emergence of new social initiatives.

Originality/value: Social entrepreneurship is an emerging field that needs further research, in particular quantitative research. In Portugal it is a little known reality, where new empirical contributions are needed.
